This painting explores the movement and energy of koi beneath the surface, where colour, light and water begin to blur into one. Set against a dark, atmospheric background, the fish emerge in flashes of electric blue, fiery orange and gold, their forms shifting as they glide through the water.

I wanted this piece to feel alive and fluid, so I worked with layers of oil paint alongside expressive drips and splashes, allowing the motion to build naturally across the canvas. The marks echo the unpredictable movement of water, creating a sense of depth and constant change.

There is a quiet contrast here between the calm, almost meditative presence of the koi and the vibrant, chaotic bursts of colour that surround them. Painted in oil on canvas, this work is both bold and immersive, designed to draw the viewer in and hold their attention over time.
