I have long felt a connection with Andy Warhol. We share the same birthday and a few other things. After reading a couple of biographies about him I was even more captivated. He loved celebrity but also saw the dark side if life and art. I superimposed an image of the Jokers face over his own. This is playing with my thoughts that Andy is a very serious artist but he was also a joker.

The portrait was done in a classical oil painting technique using three layers with each consecutive layer containing more oil. I left the face in a monotone burnt umber. The mask-joker makeup I wanted to look like it had been printed on top of the portrait in the style of the artist.
The painting is a step forward in my process to keep on doing realistic portraits but to bring in layers of transparent shapes to give narratives to individuals personality's and lives.
