I wanted to paint dancing and this is where I arrived. During a residency in Flanders, a group of young dancers allowed me to attend their rehearsals. It was difficult to break from my habitual way of painting but so worth it.

I used graphite on paper and stood by my easel between the theatre seats. Once I went back to the studio I added color recalling from memory what the dancer's clothes as well as the floor in the background.
