The impressionist painting shows a dreamy scene on the island of Mainau, in which a garden comes to life in spring. Sunlight falls gently through the canopy of leaves and bathes the scene in a soft, golden glow. The lights and shadows are subtle and flow into one another, as is typical of Impressionism.
