Vianney is part of Mystiques serie.
Vianney is a free representation of the Saint Curé of Ars.
Here the iconography of the holy priest is completely reinvented. The Curé of Ars, famous for his sermons to which the faithful flocked, is represented on the staircase ascending to his flesh. He holds a discipline, a small knotted flogger used for mortifications which were recommended to keep the body from all sin.
The artist offers a vision of the saint removed from any “patos” to favor his humanity, captured in intimacy.
