Original artwork description
Acrylic on Paper | Framed 40 × 30 cm | Original Painting
Veering Southeast Later takes its title from the shipping forecast, where gradual changes in wind direction are noted with restraint rather than urgency. Horizontal bands of colour move steadily across the surface, shifting from open blues and soft sky tones through warmer yellows, reds, and deeper blues. Areas of textured, weathered paint introduce a sense of change held within an otherwise ordered structure.
The composition balances movement and stability, with clear horizontal divisions softened by tonal variation and surface detail. References to sea, horizon, and atmosphere remain implied, allowing the painting to sit comfortably between abstraction and place.
The measured horizontal rhythm gives the painting a calm, steady presence. Its layered colour and surface texture offer depth without visual noise, making it easy to live with and rewarding longer looking as subtle shifts and details gradually emerge.
