'Beyond the Empty Blue"Linocut by Layla Khani (aka Laylart)

This original artwork is created in reduction linocut print and is available in a limited edition. In this landscape print, I have been exploring the subtle colours and shapes found in nature and landscape around me. The reduction print is a long process, in which I roll each colour separately on the block and transfer it to the paper through an etching press. I keep carving, inking and printing on top of the previous layer until the image is complete. This is done for every single print in the entire edition.

I take my inspiration from the landscape around malvern hills where my studio is located and I create all my linocut prints and paintings. My work is an emotional response to the places I visit, people I meet and stories/ poems I read. In each print, the story within the frame happens in multiple locations and throughout separate times or even simultaneously, but they are all parts of one big picture, yet still the order in which the viewer looks at the events or reads its visual story always varies with each person and could be rearranged every time without losing its initial visual impact.
