The composition seeks to display the balance between the stillness of the crumbling windmill in the foreground, to the left of the painting and the open space on the right. There is also the comparison between the sheep, seemingly oblivious to anything beyond their local environment against the goat, standing high on top of the structure, looking out at the wider world
