Original artwork description
Monumental scaled painting based on my own collages as well as collages by Picasso and Gris. The landscape is appropriated from an Albert Bierstadt painting. The project was planned to span the 4 months of winter compressing time as an agent of change within the character of various meta paintings within the overall piece. After meticulously crafting the composition and nearing completion the strategy was to add an additional layer by defacing the mural with slapdash gestures, words and graffiti and in the ensuing melee generate a giant question about what exactly happened and why.
When I began the piece in December with this plan in place I had no idea that was when I ended in April I would be witnessing a horrific war. The last marks became expressions of protest.
