Unavailable Seat by the Window

Unavailable Seat by the Window captures a quiet moment of solitude, suspended somewhere between travel and reflection. A woman sits beside the window, absorbed in her own thoughts as the world beyond the glass becomes an indistinct blur of colour and movement.

Loose, expressive brushwork and a muted palette of warm peach, dusty violet and deep blue create a sense of faded nostalgia, while the flashes of red and turquoise bring energy to the otherwise contemplative scene. The fragmented forms and visible marks are deliberately left unresolved, allowing the viewer to imagine the journey, the destination and the thoughts occupying the sitter’s mind.

There is something slightly cinematic about the moment — a fleeting glimpse of someone who appears physically present, yet emotionally somewhere else. The title suggests a seat that should be occupied, but perhaps isn’t really available at all: a small metaphor for distance, longing and the spaces we create within ourselves.
