Umeå Stadskyrkan 4/17 (2026) Etchings & engravings by Bart Demeestere

21 x 15cm (unframed) / 15 x 10cm (actual image size)

£128.15

Like a small cathedral, Umeå Stadskyrkan has stood in the centre of Umeå since 1894. It was built in neo-Gothic style of brick on a granite base, designed by city architect Fredrik Olaus Lindström after the great fire of 1888.
One October evening, I walked past the church in the dark. The sunset behind the trees, the warm light from the windows. That became the starting point for a series of works, both in print and in oil.
The print is built up in three layers: drypoint with black intaglio ink, drypoint with coffee, and a linocut with coloured inks. Each print is unique.
This is a unique state print: every impression is individually crafted. No two are identical. I have only made 17 of them; this is number 4.

Materials used:

alukraft plate, Akua intaglio ink, three-layer print: drypoint (Akua intaglio), drypoint (coffee) and linocut, printed on handmade paper
