Original artwork description:

I closed my eyes and saw this image over and over again.
The idea for this painting came to me when my daughter and I were hiding from the bombing in a narrow corridor of an apartment building. When bombs exploded nearby, there was a deafening roar and the walls shook. I felt completely defenseless, unable to protect my daughter. I wanted to reflect this state of vulnerability in my painting. Also, the popular bright motif with umbrellas became for me a symbol of dissonance between the world living a peaceful life and the points on Earth where wars are raging. I also wanted to shout to the whole world: “People, come to your senses, while you live your ordinary lives, sit in cafes, work in offices, go shopping, bombs are falling on Ukrainian cities! We need peace!”

The painting is made with acrylic. To emphasize the foreignness and inappropriateness of the bombs, I used the collage technique. I cut them out of paper and glued them, then covered them with varnish.

Canvas. Acrylic. Mixed-media.

Original painting.

Materials used:

acrylic
