This original watercolour painting, titled 'Ukrainian Summer: Taras's Cherries', is botanical still life capturing fresh fruit directly on the branch. I wanted to paint the intensity of a Ukrainian summer, where cherries grow plump and deep red.

Using professional watercolours on premium acid-free paper, I built up many fine, transparent layers of crimson and scarlet to render the glossy sheen and rich colour of the skin. I used wet-on-wet techniques in the background to ensure the vibrant cherries completely capture the viewer's attention.
