Original artwork description:

In this painting, I took the challenge to see how I could attain the gentle quality Jan Mankes (1889-1920) painting of two roses. I used the encaustic technique, on a gessoed Rosespina paper (with traditional gesso). I felt the molten wax and pigment would give the silky, vintage look that I was after. I had done my best but it is hard to capture in a photograph the silky quality of the wax surface.

Jan Mankes (1889 – 1920) was a Dutch painter. He produced around 200 paintings, 100 drawings, and 50 prints before dying of tuberculosis at the age of 30. His restrained, detailed work ranged from self-portraits to landscapes and studies of birds and animals.

This artwork comes unframed. I would recommend framing behind glass. The paper has raw edges that could look great in a box-type frame. The additional images are for reference only and show how the framed artwork would look in situ.
This painting will be shipped to you in a reinforced envelope, sandwiched between two carton layers and wrapped for protection against moisture or rough handling in transport. A certificate of authenticity will be included. Given that everything goes smoothly with the postal services, the painting should typically arrive within 10 days. I take all measures to ensure I use a trusted shipping agent, with tracking and insurance.

If you have any questions about, for instance, a tailor-made order or discount when purchasing more than one painting please send me a message. I’ll be happy to answer all your questions.
