Original artwork description:

Following on from my paper cut and shaped Koi, I've been experimenting making Koi in polymer clay, using the Mokume Gane technique, and then coating in resin to give a watery look.

Mokume-Gane is a decorative Japanese metal working technique, which originated from the 17th century when it was used to decorate samurai swords, and has been used with other materials such as polymer clay for many years now.

This is my first piece made with polymer clay and depending on where the light comes from you get a beautiful see-through effect into the layers of coloured, metallic, and translucent clay as they are raised up to let the light underneath.

I will be making more elements for my artworks using this method so do watch this space.

As with all my pieces they can be created with any choice of colour so do please message me if you would like to discuss a commission.

Materials used:

Polymer clay, resin, and foam board in a deep box frame glazed with glass
