In 1967, Yves Saint Laurent published a comic strip. A mischievous little girl thumbing her nose at convention — and he noted in the foreword that "any resemblance to persons living or dead is entirely intentional." That's the man. Brilliant, precise, and gloriously unbothered.
Caroline Milbank called him the most consistently celebrated and influential designer of 25 years. I'd add: the most fun to paint.
Red. Yellow or gold. Those glasses. Acrylic because it doesn't negotiate — you commit, it dries, it's done. Much like Saint Laurent himself, who didn't sketch tentatively. He knew.
