£1,549.08

In this work, Slasky consciously positions himself within the lineage from Marcel Duchamp to Andy Warhol, updating their inquiry into object, image, and value for the digital ecosystem.

The piece originates from a viral case: the alleged “Trash Bag Large Pouch” by Balenciaga, associated with the aesthetic of Demna and priced — as the faithfully overlaid store screenshot states — at $1790. Tracing its social genesis leads back to the appearance of the bag on Chinese actress Zhang Jingyi at the Beijing International Film Festival, during the presentation of The One, where a yellow bag plays a precise dramaturgical role.

Slasky extracts the image from circulation and reconstitutes it as a relic: a dog waste bag, black ground, baroque gilded frame. The work exposes a system where credibility precedes truth: we do not believe what we see, we see what we are ready to believe.
