A watercolor study of a beautiful specimen of Trametes olivacea, a fungi found on my walk along the lake Delsjön, just outside Gothenburg. No need to mention that it has an intricate, beautiful pattern which immediately attracted my attention.
Also known under the name Trametes gibbosa, or commonly called 'lumpy bracket', this is a polypore mushroom that causes white rot. Found on beech stumps and dead wood of other hardwood species. Polypores are some of the most important agents of wood decay and play a significant role in nutrient cycling and contributing to carbon absorption by forest ecosystems.
Part of my ongoing series 'Deep Ecology'.
