Ever since I first saw the kitchen scene with Quicksilver, I have enjoyed the song “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce. I wanted to create a painting to represent the concept of “time in a bottle. I tried placing a pocket watch inside a bottle, but it looked awkward. Then I wondered, what does time really mean? I immediately thought about quantum physics. From there, my mind jumped to chaos theory, and then to the butterfly effect.

And there it is—the butterfly. It looks much better than a pocket watch in a glass bottle.

However, a butterfly alone cannot represent the concept of time. Therefore, I added twelve Roman numerals, as commonly seen on clocks. These numerals can be viewed as projections of the butterfly itself. The twelve numerals always float around the butterfly, behaving like its shadow.

Although I tried my best to match the digital image the same as actual painting but the color may vary due to different monitor and monitor settings. Please be aware of this fact.
Hope you enjoy this one. :D
