Tides of Pale Morning.diptych (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia

Tides of Pale Morning is an original contemporary abstract seascape diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. The set consists of two 70 × 90 cm acrylic paintings on stretched canvas, forming a large composition of approximately 140 × 90 cm when displayed side by side.

While creating this diptych, I imagined the coastline at the beginning of the day, when cool morning light touches the water and the landscape has not yet fully emerged from the mist. I wanted the two canvases to feel connected without simply repeating one another—as if they captured two consecutive moments of the same changing sea.

Across both paintings, horizontal layers suggest distant horizons, water and reflections, while expressive textured passages introduce the energy of waves, clouds and shifting light. The imagery remains deliberately abstract, allowing the viewer to discover a personal landscape within the composition.

I created the works with professional acrylic paints, combining palette-knife work, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush applications and layered impasto textures. The contrast between smooth atmospheric areas and more tactile passages gives the surfaces depth and movement, especially as natural light changes throughout the day.

The palette combines soft sky blue, dusty blue, blue-grey, warm ivory, cream, sand, beige, taupe, white, deep navy, charcoal, espresso brown and earthy ochre accents. Cooler blues and luminous whites create a sense of air and water, while the darker brown and ochre passages bring warmth, contrast and visual depth.

Tides of Pale Morning works beautifully as a large statement diptych for Modern, Contemporary, Coastal, Hamptons, Organic Modern, Japandi, Scandinavian and sophisticated neutral interiors. The two-panel format gives the artwork a strong architectural presence while maintaining the calm atmosphere of an abstract coastal landscape.
