Three Hearts, One Spine (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Igor Kotnik Art

80 x 90 x 2cm

£1,229.15

Three Hearts, One Spine explores the intimate, almost wordless bond between a woman and a horse. The third heart belongs to the viewer. The figures are not separate; instead, they are composed of intertwined planes and bold contours that flow into each other. This intentional fragmentation allows the two beings to merge into one structure, suggesting a shared drive, a shared trust, and a shared inner rhythm.

I build the surface with acrylic, modeling clay, and sand, so that the painting bears a tactile relief. This physical weight reflects the strength and solidity of the horse, as well as the emotional weight of dependence and connection. Warm earth tones and touches of gold anchor the work in a quiet, grounded atmosphere rather than drama; the scene feels contemplative, like a pause in breathing between movement and stillness.

For me, this work is about how two different lives can move through the world as one—supporting each other, holding each other, and listening to the same deep, inner music. It is both a tribute to the nobility of the horse and a reflection on the human need for trust, loyalty, and companionship.
