This Wild and Rugged Moor is a contemporary landscape rooted in lived experience of the Peak District. Drawing on repeated encounters with this terrain, the artist captures not a fixed view, but an atmosphere shaped by light, sound, and seasonal change. The work evokes the presence of summer on the moorland: skylarks ascending into hazed skies, the distant call of curlew, and lapwings cutting across open space.

The composition unfolds through layered fields of colour, purples, greens, and earthy reds, suggesting wild bracken and heather in full growth. Thick impasto, applied with a palette knife, builds a richly textured surface that engages the viewer at close range, while softer transitions and delicate cloud forms draw the eye toward the horizon.
