Original artwork description:

In The Worship of the Algorithm, Dóra Stork envisions the birth of a modern deity — not of spirit, but of data. The all-seeing, pixelated eye rises from luminous wax layers, interrupted by transferred pigment traces — ghostly fragments of digital memory imprinted into the material. It observes, interprets, and dictates, while humanity, mesmerized, kneels in silent devotion. Through the tactile depth of encaustic, Stork bridges ancient ritual and digital mythology, transforming wax into a mirror of our technological faith.

This large-format encaustic and pigment transfer painting on OSB panel combines hand-blended beeswax and carnauba wax with delicate pigment traces, symbolizing the intersection of human touch and algorithmic order. Each layer captures both material presence and conceptual meaning, embodying the tension between creation and control. A highlight of Dóra Stork’s Algorithm series, the work invites reflection on how data and algorithms shape belief, perception, and identity in the digital age.

In many of my encaustic works, I use OSB panels made from recycled wood. I’m drawn to their industrial texture and unique surface pattern, which make each painting one of a kind.
