Original artwork description:

The Way Home (Petite I) is a contemplative piece on raw canvas, capturing the simplicity and quiet beauty of a journey toward belonging. The muted colors—soft shades of coral, earthy tones, and light blues—imbue the work with a gentle sense of peace. The delicate wash of grass anchors the piece, while nestled on the horizon line is a grouping of homes in the foreground of what might be an urban landscape in the background -- representing the idea of returning to a place of comfort and familiarity.

The touch of bright blue sky at the top adds a sense of openness and possibility, while the subtle texture of the raw canvas evokes a sense of authenticity and grounding. As a parent, many years ago, I wrote a performance poem accompanied by classical music which included the sense that we build foundations for our families which, hopefully, are always a soft and safe place for family members to land (or to which they can return). With this piece, I wanted to invite that same reflection on the feeling of finding one's way back to a space that offers solace and connection, whether literal or emotional.

Materials used:

acrylic, oil pastel, pencil on raw canvas
