Original artwork description:

Woodbridge is a lovely small town on the River Deben in Suffolk and we visit a few times every year. The Tide Mill is quite unique and still mills small amounts of wheat today. Water is gathered in a mill pond from the incoming tide and when the tide turns the gates are closed and the outflow of water turns the water wheel and the the mill stones. A few generations ago the mill was owned by relatives of our close friends and so we feel a special attraction to it. I love the angles of the roof which present special challenges. The harbour in front of the mill contains many house boats with quite a lot of them being the distinctive Dutch barges with their round bows and sterns together with large lea boards on each side. I sketched the picture from a seat on the footpath opposite with a fine line pen then added a loose wash. (Please note the actual size of the painting is 28x19cm.)

Materials used:

windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna and Paynes Grey with Pin waterproof ink pen on Bockingford 200lb paper.
