In the words of Roger Ebert, the movie "The River" by Jean Renoir ... regards life without trying to wrest it into a plot. During the course of the year, the girls fall in love with the same unavailable man, there is a death and a birth, and the river continues to flow...
It is one of my favorite movies and one I channeled in this painting. My personal vision of the River was life as an eternal, unstoppable, sublimely beautiful cycle of creation and demise. There is life and death represented in red and green and the river was suggested by the drips of thin opaque paint.
