The Right Time (2024) (2024) Original Oil Painting by Verity Westwood
100 x 100 x 2cm (unframed)
£895
Original artwork description
An exploration of light, colour, and timing. This piece centres around a moment of emergence — where colour begins to break through a restrained, neutral field. Soft layers of white and grey create space and atmosphere, allowing the introduction of colour to feel deliberate and luminous. The arc of greens, teals, and warm tones suggests a shift or transition, as if light is being revealed rather than applied. This is balanced by a darker, textured base that grounds the composition and holds its weight. Movement flows upward and inward, drawing the eye through areas of softness into points of intensity. The work captures a fleeting moment — where conditions align and something previously hidden becomes visible.
A striking, light-driven abstract with a strong sense of vertical movement and colour emergence. The composition is dominated by a sweeping upward motion, where soft whites and cool greys cascade from the top, creating a sense of atmosphere and flow. On the left, a darker vertical mass introduces weight and contrast, anchoring the otherwise luminous space. The most distinctive feature is the arc of colour emerging across the mid-lower section — greens, teals, and warm yellows blending together in a soft, radiant band. This introduces a sense of transition, almost like light refracting or passing through atmosphere. The base is heavily textured and dark, providing a solid foundation that contrasts with the softness above. Bright white highlights cut across this area, reinforcing the sense of energy and movement. There’s a clear feeling of convergence — light, colour, and texture all drawn toward a central point before expanding outward again.
