MORE ON THE ARTWORK

‘The Prettiest Girl in Town’

I’m often asked how a painting comes to life — where it begins, and how it finds its final form.

This piece, The Prettiest Girl in Town, has become one of my most popular works… but it started with no real plan at all.

Just a photograph I was drawn to — something about it felt right. I wanted to paint it loosely and see where it would take me.

In the early stages, it was messy. There’s even a faint trace of a coffee cup stain in the top corner that I had to work around.

As I worked, unexpected things began to happen. Smudges from my hands — which I initially planned to remove — started to add something raw and honest to the piece. So I left them in.

I focused first on the face — always the most challenging part — intending to complete the full figure. But somewhere along the way, the painting felt… finished.

Balanced. Complete.

So I stopped.

Sometimes knowing when to stop is the hardest — and most important — part of the process.

The original sold almost immediately, but I do have a small number of near-perfect Limited Edition prints available.

If this piece speaks to you, you can view them in my shop or get in touch for more details.
