The Pleasure of Being (2026) Original Oil Painting by Mykola Koidan

As it happened, I didn't have dolls as a child, so I never got the chance to play with them.

Let's take a girl, dress her in pretty, bright clothes, add a huge red bow — of course — throw in some accessories, put her on a bicycle, and send her out for a ride in nature. Let her enjoy the process!

What turned out to be the most interesting part for me was her face — because it became difficult to tell whether she actually likes it, or whether she's simply exhausted by all of it.

New series "Figure, Scenes"

I learned to become an artist while almost skipping the stage of childhood drawing. Before entering university, I had barely drawn at all — and along with that, I skipped the play, the imagination, the child's sense that you can draw absolutely anything. By the time I graduated, I had learned to paint what I see.

Now, twenty years later, I'm turning back toward that other direction. In this series, I take a female model as my starting point and place her into worlds and circumstances of my own invention.
