The Old Quarter in Red (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Andrada Anghel

An abstract architectural painting inspired by my trip to Hong Kong. I was fascinated by Old Town Central , one of Hong Kong's oldest neighbourhoods, where East and West, past and present, tradition and innovation all exist on the same street.

This painting is my interpretation of that layered feeling. The textured grid underneath is like old facades, maps and weathered walls, while the bursts of intense red and burnt orange are the energy, lanterns and life happening on top. Cool blues and soft whites balance the heat.

Created with heavy texture, oil, acrylics and mixed media on canvas, the surface has depth and marks that change with the light. A bold, contemporary statement piece for a modern living room, dining room or office. See the video for closeups.
