Artist Impression:
Like many of my pictures, this one has a fascinating story behind it. For a long time, I hadn’t been able to find an inspiring landscape to work with, when suddenly I remembered the old church I admired at the neighbouring cemetery. We immediately rushed towards it, though the darkness was setting in. While I was painting the picture, the cemetery got closed for the night. Nevertheless, the work had been finished, but it turned out that the only way out was to jump over the wrought-iron gate bars!
