I try to create a subtle but visually appealing base at the beginning of each painting. In its accumulation and division of layers and interrelationships of forms, the work not only documents the painting process, but also serves as a record of an expressive movement through time.
Using pigments and wood stain the materiality of the paint becomes the subject, ranging from matte and velvety to transparent and translucent, resulting in a visceral and sometimes thickly impastoed surface.
All my artwork is on gallery quality heavy duty stretched and triple primed cotton canvas and ready to hang. I include a certificate of authenticity that lists the materials as well as when the painting was completed. Fine high quality materials such as Lascau products are used and UV protective enamel for sunlight protection.
