The Midnight Water Garden, oil and acrylic on canvas, 180 x 120 x 4 cm

Due to its size, this artwork ships rolled in a tube. This is the safest way to transport large original artworks and allows me to offer it at a more competitive price. Any professional picture framer can stretch the canvas onto wooden stretcher bars, ready to hang, at a very reasonable cost. Please message me if you would like a quote to ship the artwork ready to hang.

As darkness falls, the water garden is transformed. Koi move silently beneath the surface, weaving between lily pads as reflections shimmer across deep pools of midnight blue and green. Thousands of dripped and layered marks scatter across the water like fragments of moonlight, illuminating the darkness with flashes of turquoise, emerald and gold.

There is something wonderfully secretive about a garden at night. Familiar shapes become mysterious, colours deepen and the smallest glimmer of light can suddenly seem extraordinary. Expressive dripped acrylic marks create a richly textured, almost pointillist surface, while carefully rendered koi emerge from amongst the abstraction. Light dances across the water before disappearing again into shadow, creating a sense of depth, movement and discovery.

The Midnight Water Garden is a painting of a hidden nocturnal world, peaceful yet alive, where moonlight, water and colour come together for a moment of magic.
