Original artwork description:

The painting is a Self-portrait of the Artist. He stands before a window, our focus directed towards the pool of sunlight illuminating his torso and his left hand which holds a flower. In the darkness we see his melancholic defeated expression looking out of the picture space. The silhouette of a woman against a wall can be seen in the bottom right-hand side of the painting. She stands rigidly facing away from the man, indifferent to his plight.
