Auvergne landscape, France.
Before becoming the majestic river lined with France's most beautiful castles, near its source, the Loire is a river that carves its path through volcanic mountains, forming wild gorges. This is where I live, and I love to paint it through the changing seasons and light.
From high on this bridge, my gaze sweeps down, and the canvas demands to be created. I want to capture the unique autumn light, which doesn't overwhelm, but instead caresses and reveals. An explosion of gold and deep greens frames the tumultuous course of the Loire. On the banks, the foliage vibrates in the sunlight.
The river, a ribbon of flowing water, is the changing mirror of the sky and the memory of the rocks it carries along. In the distance, the hills fade into successive layers, bathed in a soft light that unifies this vibrant landscape, full of energy and color.
The white finish of the sides of the canvas allows, if you wish, a hanging without a frame.
Materials used:
This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.
