Original artwork description:

This painting is called The Illuminated Tree Six and is painted in acrylic paint on a cradled birch wood panel. It is made by building up layer after layer of paint, richness, texture, colour and pattern. It is a unique one of a kind painting, but part of a series of nine.

My hope is that the work is “joyful, exuberant, other worldly, jewel like and reminiscent of a magical forest.”

I chose to use acrylic paint as I wanted to build up a complex paint surface and for each painting to have a hidden history which occasionally reveals itself. 

As the paintings started to come together I thought of ancient wise trees, bedecked with shining lights. The wonder and awe of trees. This is when I started to think of them as a collection of illuminated trees, solid, stable and glowing with light and life. 

This wood panel was hand prepared with three light coats of primer and then each painting is finished with varnish and wax so it has a lovely lustre and tactile surface. This painting is ready to hang as is, or for you to frame depending on preference.
