THE GULF IN SHADES (STUDIO 25)
In this sunset photograph taken over the Gulf of Follonica, I focused on capturing the essence of silence. The sea is softened through a long exposure that dissolves movement, turning the waves into velvety, almost painterly surfaces.
The horizon line sits low and steady, crossed by the distant silhouettes of the Maremma hills, appearing more like a memory than a clearly defined presence.
The composition is built through reduction: few elements, open space, balance. The foreground is crossed by a dark, diagonal band of water that gently guides the eye toward the center of the image, while the tones unfold gradually, from the pearly greys of the sea to the deep greens and blues of the land, up to the soft yellows and muted oranges of the sunset sky.
Color is never sharp, but constantly blended, as if the light were slowly leaving the scene. This work is rooted in my relationship with Tuscany and the Maremma, a land that has inspired my artistic practice for years and continues to shape my search for quiet and contemplation.
This photograph is meant to bring calm, depth, and a sense of suspended time into the space that holds it.
