The inspiration for The Gem came from the symbolism of the gemstone held in Jesus’ hand and carried on his heart. For me, this gemstone represents inner knowing — the quiet wisdom that comes from listening to the heart. I was also inspired by the colors and by the idea of light being built slowly, layer by layer.
I hope viewers feel a sense of stillness and recognition. Not something that needs explanation, but something that is intuitively understood. The work invites reflection and trust, reminding us that when we listen inwardly, we already know what we need to know.
I chose reduction linocut because it is an irreversible and demanding process. Once material is carved away, it cannot be restored. This makes the technique closely connected to themes of trust, commitment, and inner guidance. The symbolic subject matter and the use of gold allowed me to express light, presence, and inner truth in a layered, tactile way.
