The Forgotten Bouquet (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Liubov Samoilova

A warm spring rain falls over an old courtyard, leaving reflections on the pavement. In the foreground lies a magnificent bouquet of lilac — abandoned, but still full of colour and life.
This painting was inspired by a real moment I witnessed several years ago. I remember a young couple arguing in an old courtyard. The man offered the woman a bouquet of lilac, but she refused it and eventually walked away, leaving the flowers behind. Soon afterwards, a gentle spring rain began to fall.
I did not take the bouquet with me, but the scene stayed in my memory: the old buildings, the wet pavement, the lilac and the unanswered story of two people whose lives I knew nothing about.
Years later, this memory became a painting.
I wanted to capture not only the beauty of spring, but also the feeling of something unfinished — a moment of tenderness, disagreement and quiet melancholy.

The painting is created in acrylic on canvas. Textural paste was applied beneath the bouquet before painting, giving the lilac additional relief and tactile quality. The flowers are deliberately the most textured and expressive part of the composition, becoming the visual and emotional focus of the work.
This painting belongs to my ongoing Lilac Series, inspired by my memories and sketches of spring. The works in the series are connected by their lilac motif and a palette of violet, turquoise, pink and blue tones, while each painting tells its own small story.
A painting about lilac, rain and a memory that refused to disappear.
