The First Day of Spring Linocut by Layla Khani (aka Laylart)
36 x 26cm (unframed) / 30 x 20cm (actual image size)
£150
Artwork description
First Day of Spring is an original hand-pulled reduction linocut inspired by the first signs of spring in the countryside around my Malvern Hills studio.
A white cottage sits at the edge of the woodland, surrounded by tall trees, fresh green meadow and early wildflowers. I wanted to capture that moment when winter begins to lift and the landscape starts to feel alive again.
I created the print using the reduction linocut technique. Each colour is printed from the same lino block, with more of the surface carved away between every layer. The process continues until the image is complete. Because the block is progressively destroyed during printing, the edition is fixed and cannot be reproduced again.
First Day of Spring is from a very small edition of just 8. Each impression is individually inked and printed by hand, so small variations in colour and texture are part of the character of the work.
