Original artwork description
Painted on-site. A late autumn scene highlighting the final brilliant bursts of color of the year. Features an autumn smokebush with a hypnotic display of burgundy-red, burgundy-purple, and bronzy-orange leaves. In front of the smokebush are a couple of "burning bush" shrubs with leaves ranging from deep green at the bottom to orange-red in the middle and pink at the top. The scene also includes evergreen trees at the left, a crown of bare branches against a darkening sky, and a smattering of yellow maple leaves at the right. Watery effects in the background grass and sky were created with casein paint and glazed with oil. The texture of the foliage is enhanced by thick oil paint delicately applied with palette knife, and incorporates iridescent red, purple, magenta, green and blue-green. The sides of the stretched canvas are painted, and it is ready to hang. The shallow stretcher bars would also fit into any type of frame if a frame is desired.
