Rural scenes like this have always held a special fascination for me. Even as farm technology advances, the sight of farmers in some parts of India still relying on the strength of bulls or oxen to till their land stirs something within me. For a long time, I've wanted to translate these scenes onto paper, and this painting is one such attempt. I aimed to capture the way the white of the oxen seems to gleam against the earthy tones of the field and the paper itself. My intention was to be quite impressionistic and painterly, focusing on conveying the feeling and essence of this enduring way of life.
Most of the painting is done with opaque watercolors. I've used a graphite pencil lightly to put in the background. Signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
