- The Echo of centuries
Original artwork description
This watercolour is a frozen memory of childhood spent on the banks of the Don, where limestone cliffs quietly tell their ancient stories. The layers of stones, casually stacked by time, resemble the pages of an old book, where every crack is a line filled with the memory of millennia. They lie upon one another like the stages of life: some are rough and unpolished, others are smoothed by winds and water, as if they have passed through trials and gained wisdom.
The rugged yet captivating outlines of the limestone evoke a simultaneous feeling of loneliness and safety. These shores have witnessed much: the rustling of reeds, the reflections of the setting sun on the water, the shadows of fishermen bent over their fishing rods. They preserve the echo of children’s games, when we ran across these stones without thinking of time, of its inexorable passage.
This painting is not merely a landscape, but a meditation on the connection between humans and the earth, on the roots that nourish the soul. It prompts us to reflect on how important it is sometimes to stop, to listen to the whisper of stones and grasses, in order to hear the voice of our own memory, the voice of the native land that resonates within each of us — even if we forget it in the hustle and bustle of daily life.
