Original artwork description
Night time urban painting of a corner in Brynmill, near Singleton Park in Swansea. It is one of a series of paintings entitled "Day for Night" which were painted for exhibition.
Since the relatively recent introduction of LED lights we have seen the introduction of "day" colours into the orangy dark. Suddenly we can see rusty colours and bluey green leaves on trees, vivid silvery greys and purples even. There are as many colours to the night now as during the day time.
It has transformed my ability to paint a night time scene and this was one of the first paintings I painted after these LED lights where introduced; the corner of Brynmill and Langland. A lot of these night time paintings are partly inspired by Hopper and other US artists who paint the night in all it's evocative colour, hence the deliberately Americana type title.
