The Caress, 2020

In this painting I explore the complex coexistence of desire, power, seduction, and mortality. A solitary figure dressed in a deep red garment reminiscent of ecclesiastical authority is seen from behind, creating both distance and mystery. The viewer is not invited to see the face, but rather to witness a moment, intimate, ambiguous, and quietly charged with tension.

Two hands enter the scene from opposite sides, forming a symbolic dialogue around the figure. One of them, skeletal and fragile, rests gently on the shoulder, a silent reminder of mortality. The other hand is pale, elegant, and strangely unsettling. Its fingers resemble elongated legs, almost transforming the hand into a creature of desire and movement. Each finger is adorned with elaborate gold rings set with diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and other precious stones. The opulence of these jewels intensifies the sense of temptation, seduction, and material desire.

In this encounter several opposing forces coexist. There is a tension between eroticism and abstinence, temptation and restraint, desire and renunciation. The jeweled hand evokes seduction, wealth, vanity, and the seductive power of earthly pleasures, while the skeletal hand quietly introduces the inevitable presence of death. Between them stands the figure, caught in a moment of suspended awareness, both the one who seduces and the one who is seduced.

The title The Caress deepens this paradox. A caress is usually associated with tenderness, yet here it becomes something more ambiguous. The caress becomes a multiplied desire, a gesture that carries within it longing, temptation, vanity, and the fragile awareness of time. It suggests the strange human condition in which life, desire, greed, beauty, and death constantly intertwine.

The deep red cloak intensifies this atmosphere of tension and introspection. Red evokes power, passion, sacrifice, and spiritual authority, while the surrounding darkness isolates the figures and amplifies the silent drama of the moment.

Through this image I wanted to create a scene that feels both seductive and philosophical, a meditation on desire, wealth, temptation, and mortality, and on the fragile boundary between spiritual restraint and the irresistible forces that continue to shape human life.
