It is inspired by the butterfly effect in chaos theory which sounds pretentious I know, but it really just me thinking about that quote about a butterfly fluttering its wings leading ultimately to a tornado. I kept thinking of this while cutting out a large butterfly linocut and decided to do a series of monoprints on this theme.
I have made it in a form of a mandala made from flowers and butterflies. Mandalas originated in the ancient Hindu religion, and are now seen as a "geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically ... it originally meant to represent wholeness and a model for ... life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows the relation to the infinite and the world." ( quote from Wikipedia) This seemed to fit really well with the butterfly effect. Hope you like the result.

Printed onto Fabriano paper, using Caligo safe ink (oil based).

Paper sized : 56 cm x 56 cm

My linocuts are handmade from start to finish, hand carved, rolled and handprinted, as in the nature of linoprints and the handmade process they may have small variations. This I feel is part of the charm of printmaking and makes each print into both a unique artwork.

Materials used:

Fabriano acid free paper 250gsm, Caligo safe ink
