I painted this 16x12 inch oil on canvas to capture a warm memory of simpler times. I imagined a lively backstreet scene filled with everyday life — children playing hopscotch, neighbours chatting, and the friendly butcher leaning from his doorway offering a few sausages to a hopeful dog. I wanted the painting to feel full of light, laughter, and community spirit, with the red brick walls and hanging washing adding to the sense of homeliness. It’s a small glimpse into a world where everyone knew each other, and even the dog could count on a treat now and then.
