The brain — is wider than the sky (2026) Original Oil Painting by Flora Butler

Crafted over many months and hundreds of hours, this painting felt anchoring for me during a time of great flux in my life. I returned to it time and again, adding more rows of tiny white circles and slowly building the finished piece with each sitting.

My practice has always been a source of calm and a place where I process what I am going through in the rest of my life, and this piece in particular has been deeply cathartic and healing.

It began with a layer of deep blue, followed by rows of even deeper blue large circles. Once that had dried, I began painting lines of tiny white circles over the top, creating a net-like structure lying on top of the original blue layers. The white circles fade into one another as I organically ran out of paint and refilled my brush, which creates a wave-like dynamic quality and a strong sense of a pulling, tidal-like movement.

This piece is signed and dated on the back and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. It will be carefully wrapped in tissue paper and foam board, then shipped in a cardboard box within 5 working days.
