Rosy and Mary Carita fled Spain in the 1930s carrying talent, nerve, and a phrase I couldn't shake: beauty contractors. The audacity of it. The craft in it. The quiet pride — wait, not quiet. The blazing pride.
I built the ochre ground deliberately, layer on layer, the way they built their empire: with full intention and no shortcuts. White marks for one sister, black for the other — two voices, one force, the same refusal to be anything less than extraordinary.
This is part of my Celebrities of Occitanie series, and the Caritas earned their place in it. They didn't just reshape a profession — they made beauty generous. Inclusive. A kind of legacy you could walk into off the street.
That's what I wanted hanging on a wall: not decoration, but the warmth between two people who built something enormous — and never stopped turning to each other while they did it.
