The Ballad of the Masks, oil on canvas, 60x60 cm
In the meadow veiled by a thin mist,
a girl stops, her face gentle.
She wears a hat, her gaze sincere,
the silent guardian of a whole heart.
Behind her, intently dance
festive figures with laughing faces:
they are cloth rabbits, wearing white masks,
who circulate swiftly among tired shadows.
They all believe that the game can save them,
that the false smile must endure,
but beneath the skin of cloth and deception
beats a silence that weighs and does harm.
She remains still, dressed in yellow,
she does not change her appearance, she does not deceive life.
In her deep gaze, a light lights up:
he who is without a mask never defends himself.
So the ballad slowly fades,
amid echoes of laughter and dust in the hand:
he who chooses deception one day vanishes,
he who remains himself forever flourishes.
